Project description: Taking the damp unused brick vaulted chambers which lie below the forecourt of Carlton House, this project transformed the space into a dry, bright, vibrant and exciting education space within this Grade 1 listed monolithic structure.

During this project the process of sensitive removal, restoration and addition has amounted to more than just the sum of the old & the new – this project has breathed new and unforeseen public life into a very modest corner of Nash’ ambitious master plan.

This has created a vibrant, modern and exciting space which the forms the fulcrum of the Gallery’s education and community programme as well as a wonderful exhibition space.

The Learning Centre was awarded Education project of the year at the Association of Interior Specialist (AIS awards 2014)
